Advanced Yin Yoga Teacher Training

As teachers, it is critical that we continue the process of our own journey so that we may in turn facilitate the growth and development of our students. The process of both evolution and involution, requires focus, discipline and commitment. In honour of seekers everywhere, WuXing Martial Arts and Soghrati Yoga have teamed up to create short certificate courses that allow you to progress in your personal practice. All courses will be facilitated by Sifu Ali Siadatan, Shellie Siadatan, or Tracey Soghrati. We encourage you to contact us with any questions.

Course 2: Traditional Chinese Medicine Workshop with Shellie Siadatan

Pre-requisite: Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Tracey Soghrati & Shellie Siadatan

WHO AM I?

Which of the Five Elements--Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water surges most strongly within you? Are you most like the supple birch tree bending in the wind, the sun-setting crimson behind the clouds, the fertile fields that nourish and provide, the snow-capped mountains reaching toward the heavens, or the rushing river flowing to the sea? We all have strengths, weaknesses and affinities to the Five Elements.

This 4-hour workshop style lecture will help you discover why you react and carry repeated patterns of disharmony that manifest in illness; physical, mental or emotional.

You will begin the workshop by filling out a questionnaire to determine which element you have an affinity to.  We will then look at each elemental archetype with detail to further understand the process of balance and disharmony in each phase.'We must first bring our own garden in order before we offer to help our neighbour.'

Outline:

Part I Historical Context : (45 minutes)

Situating the Tao Te Ching. – who was Lao Tzu.

The "sage" in Chinese culture. What do we know about the ancient manuscripts and the date of writing. What was happening in China during that period - How does this classic fit in the context of larger Chinese/Taoist thought -How does it fit in the general pattern of thought of its time? Essentially, what else were people thinking at that time?-spiritually or philosophically?

Part II Going deeper (2hours)

Discussing the content of the book. We will turn our attention to many of the "poems". The content ranges from deep mystical thought to insight into daily living.

Three main subjects are developed: "Tao" (the way), "Te" (virtue) & "Wei Wu Wei" (action without action). Each concept will be explained.

As we examine the various poems we will discuss the proposed path to enlightenment. The goal of the Taoist sage is to enter a state of consciousness in which the sage becomes aware of the Tao. But how exactly does one achieve this awareness?

Part III General discussion. (20 minutes)

Explore the text by sharing more of your thoughts with the group.

Part IV

Taoist meditation: learn the microcosmic circuit meditation. (40 minutes). Moving the chi in the microcosmic circuit and storing it in the Tan Tien, improves health and brings clarity to the mind.

In preparation for this lecture please read all 81 poems. Underline any passage that makes you pause, intrigue you, challenge you …
